Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution offers impressive performance.""One of the most valuable features is how well this solution performs. It's stable, aside from some patch issues, but it's great from a virtualization and scalability perspective.""The feature that I have found most valuable is its software Move, which we use to migrate virtual info from another platform to the Nutanix platform.""Nutanix has several unique capabilities to ensure linear scalability.""Nutanix does a superb job with technical support.""It is less expensive than VMware products. It is also a little bit more flexible, but it really comes down to price for us.""Acropolis' main advantages are high performance and availability.""Acropolis has a great interface and lots of management features packaged with it at an affordable price."

"VSAN works great; it's very easy to install, configure, and manage.""The primary purpose of this software is to create a virtual SAN between local storage on Hyper-V hosts. I find this feature most valuable since it accomplishes this quite well.""It has a nice, simple control panel. You can clearly see the state and health of storage along with the synchronization.""The iSCSI protocol is quite simple to configure.""A great feature is that I basically set it and forget it, as everything is automatic.""It is extremely stable.""PowerShell library is pretty good feature as I created with APC PowerChute a script to put volumes on maintenance mode then turning off the StarWind nodes together with the VM and Hosts when UPS reaches 15 percent, this way after a blackout or electrical problems when turning servers on again, there is no issues for syncing or data loss due to energy interrupts.""Using our own choice of HW allowed us to price our service to answer our customers' needs."

Cons
"I'm not very technical, so I don't know if there are any features that are really lacking. Our customers seem pleased with it, and I haven't heard of any downsides.""The patch updates of Nutanix Acropolis could be improved. I'm work on the corporate side, but I get feedback from our IT team that patch updates and other updates are taking a significantly longer time. This definitely needs to be resolved. We are in discussion with Nutanix regarding certain configuration issues we are having, so maybe something can be changed to ease these patch updates.""This product would be improved if it included a hybrid cloud solution.""To have internal stability, we needed to network the solution ourselves. Performance depends on the application. Performance could be the lack of IOPS, memory and CPU and configuration issues.""In the future, I would like Acropolis to add support for publishing external storage.""This solution would be improved with built-in integration with Rubrik.""As far as what could be improved, they have some built-in backup functions already, but any built-in isolation features like vision security features and free LAN features become a security concern.""The ability to create clusters faster would be nice to see in a future release."

More Nutanix Acropolis AOS Cons →

"I would like to see options for automated notifications of any changes, including, for example, synchronization issues.""Being able to run StarWind vSAN on top of any free UNIX operating system to build a resilient iSCSI/FTP/SMB storage system would be useful.""Updating the software can be a bit tricky.""Management tools could be improved, sometimes the usage seems to be slowed down and confusing. A native web interface could also be an option. I love to see in the future port of the software on a general Linux distribution like RedHat or Ubuntu in order to avoid windows license costs. I would also like to see features like erasure coding implemented. On the VSAN software, I would like to see some improvements in the storage pools (eliminate the usage of the file as a data container and use the raw partition).""The main issue we ran into was the documentation. We attempted to set up the product in our test environment by ourselves and ran into several areas of the documentation that were unclear to us.""Performance when in storage-separate configuration needs to be improved.""Maybe in the future, the replication will be supported in more cloud providers.""It would be nice to add the ability to use raw partitions instead of file containers."

For SMB, ROBO, Cloud and Hosting providers, who look to cut down virtualization expenses, our solution is StarWind VSAN. It is software that eliminates any need in physical shared storage by basically “mirroring” internal hard disks and flash between hypervisor servers. In case there is a new virtualization infrastructure to be built from scratch, StarWind offers a much better way – StarWind HyperConverged Appliance. It is a turnkey solution complete with hardware and software, powered by StarWind Virtual SAN. Those who need to build and maintain virtualization infrastructure at little to no expense, may be interested in StarWind Virtual SAN Free.
