Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is good for giving an overview of the systems and for tracking long-term trends. It is handy for root cause analysis, e.g. it can eliminate whether storage is the cause of an issue.""Cloud Secure is definitely the most valuable feature and being able to see file level activity. It gives real-time alerting on possible ransomware attacks and provides file security review. It helps us to see if something abnormal is happening on the system before it's too late.""Its ability to quickly inventory our resources, figure out interdependencies across them, and assemble a topology of your environment is brilliant. There is a price associated with it. Whenever you target a NetApp environment, it is included in the price but whenever you want to add different vendors, like VMware and Cisco, the price greatly spikes. Inventorization helps us a lot to visualize the environment.""Among the most valuable features are the queries and reporting that allow us to look at the utilization of resources, at how well the storage is performing, and to report on which resources are being used by which business units. We can track usage across the entire environment, across applications, business units, cost centers, etc."

"Nagios XI helps us monitor the bandwidth of the internet connection, HTTP, DNS, active directory services, and exchange data availability. We have multiple servers to monitor databases, availability of servers, and ping.""The solution is pretty stable.""Nagios is stable and it's easy to use the monitoring software, which is why we chose this product.""Nagios is a custom API manager, and we can expose custom APIs for our integration. This is a great feature."

More Nagios XI Pros →

"The product covers our needs for the basic care and feeding of servers, whether they are physical or virtual.""The initial setup is easy.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the monitoring capabilities.""The connectivity of the solution is very good.""The initial setup was straightforward. We deployed the solution from new and completed the upgrades.""The most valuable feature is the way it monitors the environment, and how user-friendly the console is for the end-user. The interface is also very easy and it captures all the information very well.""Can easily be interconnected with other management systems.""The people in technical support are very good."

Cons
"There is room for improving the creating and managing or modifying of reports. That is still a difficult task to do and requires knowledge beyond the storage itself. I would love to see reporting improved so that we can create reports by dragging and dropping pieces into a report form and publish a report that way.""Their pricing model needs improvement.""When I did need support because I was having problems with the solution, the first or the second line just didn't understand it. They were providing this only on a software as a service basis. So, they were asking all the wrong questions.""In a perfect world we would have something built, right out-of-the-box, that can identify what we call "noise," and reduce the amount of data. You're presented with so much data when you first start the data collectors. For example, it brings back a lot of change rates that happen just because of standard computing, like profile changes and that sort of thing. Being able to identify things like that and categorize them and strip it down—and it probably can do that, I just haven't gotten there yet—would be very beneficial."

More NetApp Cloud Insights Cons →

"We often need to develop custom plugins to get Nagios to work the way we want it to work because the features we need are not always available in Nagios.""It is really difficult to integrate Nagios XI with another system to generate logs and alert our management of failures in security infrastructure.""The pricing has recently risen. I know they've changed what is covered under the license, however, it doesn't change the way we use it and adds nothing to our experience, and yet we now have to pay more.""The installation and monitoring need improvement."

More Nagios XI Cons →

"GUI needs improvement with a more graphical dashboard.""The interface could be made more user-friendly.""It has covered everything, so no improvement is required at their end. The only thing is the price.""Sometimes there are issues when upgrading to a new version of the product.""Technical support can be slow to respond.""Complex and overly detailed setup.""The solution could improve in many areas, such as the marketing and description of the products, providing areas of improvement, cloud capabilities, and being able to be more streamlined with the current integration points with other applications.""They have had a rather large security breach in the past. It's cost some companies customers."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing model could be improved. We love that you can use it for free for looking at NetApp products. You only need licenses to look at non-NetApp products, but as soon as you do that, you start utilizing licenses that actually would have been free in the public. So, there is a bit of an anomaly in the licensing model."
  • "Be aware of the capacity licensing and understand how that works, because it is based on capacity. Getting an understanding of that is the biggest thing."

  • "Nagios Core does not have any payment, but Nagios XI requires payment for the license."
  • "For our country in North Africa, it's expensive and we could purchase another solution for that price. But it's a reasonable price if we're speaking in international terms."

  • "It is relatively inexpensive compared to other products in the same category."
  • "It's expensive and there are costs in addition to the standard licensing."
  • "The price is more expensive than some other products, such as ManageEngine."
  • "I find that the pricing is acceptable."
  • "USD $15,000 annually for maintenance."
  • "It is not an expensive product."
  • "It is too expensive."
  • "The licensing is based on the number of nodes, interfaces, and volumes."
