We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In addition, the flexibility, customizability, and analytics of Centreon's dashboards are all very good. The dashboards help us see the whole network map, and that is quite valuable for us. In addition, the dashboards have helped to improve our visibility and ability to proactively ensure the right data is available at the right time... The flexibility has given us the ability to add in our own monitoring metrics and that has been quite interesting and very useful for us.""Centreon helps me detect where the problem is quickly. When we resolve a problem quickly, this lowers our overall costs.""The dashboards are valuable because they ease troubleshooting and viewing. It becomes easier to locate the source of a problem... The dashboards make it easier to communicate with our clients. They don't want to see the alert console, they want to see a beautiful dashboard representing their network and their business and to watch it in case something is wrong in their environment.""The customizable reports and dashboards are really flexible. We started this partnership with Centreon, when we were looking for a solution, because of the flexibility of the reporting. That's what we found to be most attractive in the solution. You can display the data as you want.""The single-pane view provides us a view of all of our network infrastructure, and it is one of the most important tools that we use to see the status of our customers' networks.""You can concentrate and orchestrate several other solutions from other vendors. You can consolidate those solutions all in one place, then maintain and monitor from that single point. This creates ease of use. It is a very powerful solution from this point of view.""The most valuable feature is that we can manually configure everything we need. After it comes inside the interface of Centreon, you can display it. Because the interface is quite user-friendly, you can manually configure the configuration very deeply, which is very pleasant and useful because you can monitor and see everything on your service list, dashboard, or MAP. The most useful feature for me is that you can create your own plugin and monitoring query.""We have the business activity monitoring, the map, and the MBI modules and they are all very good."

"It has improved our organization with its capacity planning. We have a performance environment that we use to benchmark our applications. We use it to say, "Okay, at a certain level of concurrency, we know where our application will fall over." Therefore, we are using LogicMonitor dashboards to tell us that we're good. Our platform can handle X number of clients concurrently hitting us at a time.""We have very fine-tuned alerting that lets us know when there are issues by identifying where exactly that issue is, so we can troubleshoot and resolve them quickly. This is hopefully before the customer even notices. Then, it gives us some insight into potential issues coming down the road through our environmental health dashboards.""The breadth of its ability to monitor all our environments, putting it in one place, has been helpful. This way, we don't have to manage multiple tools and try to juggle multiple balls to keep our environment monitored. It presents a clear picture to us of what is going on.""We only have one monitoring tool, and that is LogicMonitor. It does pretty much everything we need under one roof. They are very good at rapidly releasing new features. It's not like we have to wait six months or a year between new features and data sources. There is very quick development. If there is something that doesn't do it for us, I know I can just raise it with support or our delivery representative, and there is a good chance that that will be looked at. If it's not too much effort, we will see it released in the next few months. So, the solution is very good from that perspective. We have everything in LogicMonitor.""The quick to build monitoring dashboards are the most valuable aspect of it because of the speed at which you can produce dashboards, which have a huge amount of information, across multiple sites. We use a lot of 0-based dashboards or dashboards that give us information about how our infrastructure is performing. The amount of insight that we can gain from a 30-second glance at a dashboard and a very clear view of how the infrastructure is working around the planet are good.""It has a REST API that is full-featured. It allows for a lot of custom work. It also supports Groovy and PowerShell scripting for its logic modules, so that's another area that allows for a lot of flexibility.""It's the depth of data that it gathers that I find really useful because there's nothing worse, when you're trying to find information about something or dig deeper into something, than hitting the bottom of the information really quickly and not having enough information to work with. With LogicMonitor, there is a load of information to dig through. It's a really good solution for that.""LogicMonitor saves time in terms of its ability to proxy a connection through a device. For example, if you are troubleshooting a device, which you may want to connect to, you can proxy this connection through the platform. As a support resource, I don't need to use multiple platforms to connect to a device to further investigate the issue. It is all consolidated. From that perspective, it saves time because a resource now only needs to use one platform."

"Technical support has been very helpful so far.""The initial setup is very simple.""The solution is easy to manage and the reports are very accurate.""Good compilation of the system's information.""The bandwidth monitoring is a very attractive feature, it can tell you the bandwidth utilization while it is attempting to connect to the host for feedback.""The up-to-date graphs and the history are very good.""PRTG is simple to manage. First, you can create a template for a device, then apply it to hundreds of similar devices. That's a great advantage.""It is a very stable solution. There are no bugs, glitches and we have not experienced any crashing."

Cons
"Opening a ticket on the website of Centreon can be difficult for my colleague, but not for me because my English is good. However, my colleague doesn't speak English well, as our company is in Quebec and our first language is French.""Improvements are needed in the area of cloud monitoring, as that's a newer feature.""I would like to see more plugins. That is something it needs. There is also room for improvement through dynamic thresholds, or self-discover thresholds. I would also like to see a discovery feature that could map the whole network environment and automatically suggest things.""I would like them to improve their documentation. When I faced some issues, I was looking for more documentation on the Internet. There is official documentation on Centreon's website, which sometimes is useful. Sometimes it is not very useful, as you cannot find the information or enough examples of configuration. The answer for me was to contact the support, who helped me, but I was not able to find all the information by myself on Centreon's website. A Centreon community or blog would be helpful.""During the initial setup we faced some issues. Part of it was because we had to become more knowledgeable in the solution. There are some gray areas and if you don't know the product well you may have issues. Another part of it was some bugs that we came across, although that's part of every software solution in IT nowadays. But the initial setup could be easier.""Currently, we have to go through all of the different templates and take a look at how the template is configured, and how specific parameters may change across different templates with different precedents, megatons, etc. It's a lot of work and involves trial and error. I wish they could simplify the process.""Centreon is actually missing an easy way to create a trendline for the metrics. Actually it is possible to create it, but you need a good knowledge of math, Centreon, and RRD."

"The only functional area I can think of that has room for improvement would be the dashboards. They could use a refresh. It would be nice if there were more widgets and more types of widgets.""One of the areas that I sometimes find confusing is the way that the data is presented. For example, a couple of weeks back I was looking at bandwidth utilization. That's quite a difficult thing to present, but they should try to dumb down how the data is presented and simplify what they're presenting.""Automated remediation of issues has room for improvement. I don't know how best to handle it, but I know that they're kind of working on it. I know there are some resources that can do automated remediation. I would like them to improve this area so it could be completely hands-free, where it detects an issue, such as, if a CPU is running high. There are ways to do it even now, but it's a bit more involved.""The process of upgrading some of the collectors has been a little bit confusing. I need to understand that better.""I would like to see more SQL monitoring and database monitoring. Although it has some basic functionality there, I would like to see more advanced database monitoring. I would like to be able to drill down into the SQL execution plan or the storage processor or query performance.""The dashboards can be improved. They are good, but there is a pain point. To show things to management, to explain pain points to other customers, to show them exactly where we can do better, the dashboarding could be better. Dashboards need to show the key things. Nobody is going to go into the ample details of Excel sheets or HTML.""One thing I would like to see is parent/child relationships and the ability to build a "suppression parent/child." For example, If I know that a top gateway is offline and I can't talk to it anymore, and anything that's connected below it or to it is also going to be offline, there is no need to alarm on those. In that situation it should create one ticket or one alarm for the parent. I know they're working towards that with their mapping technology, but it's not quite to that level where you can build out alarm logic or a correlation logic like that.""We would like to see more functionality around mapping of topologies, in terms of networks. An improvement that we would like to see is added functionality to get more detail out of mapping. For example, if the LogicMonitor Collector identifies a connection between two network endpoints, it would be great to actually see which ports are connecting the two endpoints together. That functionality is something we greatly desire. It would actually make our documentation more dynamic in the sense that we wouldn't need to manually document. If this is something that the platform could provide, then this would be a great asset."

"The database needs improvement.""I know we're going to move to Docker applications and I understand that PRTG does some monitoring regarding this. I do not know if it is complete. If it's not yet complete, it's something they should consider improving.""PRTG Network Monitor can improve by having better integration with devices.""We need something that is more predictive. We would prefer if it wasn't a solution that was corrective and instead offered predictive insights so that we can handle problems before they even occur.""Maybe in the future there will be room for improvement, but currently, there is nothing pressing that I can think of""The inventory of the device should be improved.""The technical support could respond a little bit quicker.""The licensing policy needs more flexibility."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "If you need basic monitoring without dashboards, just monitoring, the plugins are very useful and really cheap. If you want a more complete solution with dashboards and reporting, the EMS solution is great and it is not that much more expensive. It's a good value. Really good."
  • "Centreon is always available to develop new plugins when needed. The most important thing is that their maintenance account yearly subscription fee includes the fact that they will maintain the new plugins that you requested them to deliver."
  • "The pricing works out well for us, given our environment and where we are."
  • "Centreon is better than Nagios XI in regards to cost and support response times, when you have a problem. If you have a problem, it costs money to contact the Nagios XI support."
  • "Their licensing model is really easy. You have one license and you have access to all the features, compared to other tools where you have to purchase add-ons."
  • "It is perfect and very cheap if you are a little company or startup. After that, it is quite expensive for a big company."
  • "I would like to see improvement in the licensing model. You can purchase X number of licenses, up to 1,000 devices or 1,000 instances. Your next batch is 2,000. But what if you only need, say, 1,200? The model could be changed a little bit."

  • "LogicMonitor has the best licensing. That means we are only paying for a certain amount of devices and there is a single price per device and that's all. Other solutions rely much more on a license structure where you need to buy certain add-ons or features, depending on the number of devices you are trying to monitor with those features."
  • "Pricing seems to be on par with other solutions. For what we get, I think it's a very fair price."
  • "LogicMonitor is not the cheapest by any means, but it's also not the most expensive. From a licensing point of view, as far as we were aware, it's sort of middle of the road. It certainly has the value for money given the scale, time saved, and efficiencies that we've gained from it. It has been very worthwhile."
  • "We've not had any other costs as this is a cloud based solution. Therefore, you don't need much, if any, infrastructure to monitor. There are a few add-ons along with bits and pieces if you want to monitor certain types of infrastructure or clouds. It is then you might need an add-on. Largely, the costs are upfront and well-known."
  • "I am pretty sure that it is a one-off licensing fee with no hidden costs."
  • "It's affordable. The price we get per license is a lot cheaper than what we were getting with some of the other tools. There are other monitoring tools out there that are cheaper, but what you get with LogicMonitor, out-of-the-box, makes it worth the cost."
  • "It definitely pays for itself in the amount of time we're not spending with false errors or things that we haven't quite dealt with monitoring. It has been good cost-wise."
  • "I know we are saving at least several hundred thousand dollars in that we're not buying Cisco Prime."

  • "We used a product called SolarWinds in the past, and its cost was high. Whereas, PRTG came in at a third of SolarWind's cost."
  • "Cost was a factor when selecting this solution, but it just did everything we wanted it to do."
  • "Our licensing costs are 10,000 euros over three years."
  • "PRTG is now available as PRTG Enterprise Monitor, and the price varies depending on the total number of sensors the customer buys"
  • "It is expensive."
  • "It's an annual license that is based on the number of endpoints that we're tracking and using."
  • "All monitoring system is close to the same pricing scheme."
  • "The price is pretty comparable."
