Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is easy to spin up resources.""There is less work for the DBAs. Everything is handled in AWS itself.""The capacity to grow dynamically based on our needs is most valuable. We can increase resources dynamically. It is also very reliable and fast to implement.""This solution offers a very detailed dashboard that has some metrics, such as performance and budget.""The features that I have found most valuable are their compute and their Relational Database Service.""I like that the products are specific and objective. We can resolve a problem using a simple configuration. It's so easy to implement a solution and solve a problem using AWS solutions. AWS has a lot of specific solutions for different use cases. I think that this is the most important thing that made us consider using AWS.""Machine learning is a valuable feature.""They provide cutting-edge features compared to other cloud vendors."

"Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is about as stable as the other CSPs, but Oracle Cloud is more common in Korea.""The simple infrastructure of the service is very useful.""Oracle does well when it comes to data privacy and security, which are critical.""They seem to be more readily integrating with Azure, which is great.""Oracle offers more of the basic functionality needs.""The security on the solution is very good.""The most valuable feature of this solution is the high level of performance for the databases.""The pricing of the solution is pretty good."

Cons
"The technical support can take longer than expected sometimes. They could improve on this.""We like everything about the solution except for the general price.""The pricing structure can be improved and made more straightforward.""It would be better if there was a way to see which components were still on. We have some situations where I forget that some components are turned on. We forget some components are on, and we only see that these components are on when we see the bill at the end of the month. It would also be better if AWS had specialized firewalls or integrations with leading products. For example, a specialized firewall with content filtering. We were looking for some firewall tools, and we saw that AWS doesn't have any specialized firewall tools in its services portfolio. So, we are looking for other tools like FortKnox, Forcepoint, and Check Point because we didn't find the solutions in AWS services.""I'm not an expert on the product, but if I had to suggest one improvement, I know a feature that would allow a person to backup his on-premise solution to the cloud directly with one click would be useful. This solution should be agnostic because sometimes a product that was backed up with Veeam is highly compatible with Commvault. I think it would be better if these backup features were agnostic. Viewing a build could also be improved. It's not easy to follow up on your consumption and see how much you're paying and how much you will be paying. Viewing the build could be more clear.""The IEM (Infrastructure Event Management) appears to be complicated, specifically cross-account resource permissions.""The sorting model in AWS is a little bit complicated. When you are going through any component, you can get some surprising results.""Its only cons are on the data warehouse side. AWS' data warehouse Redshift is not as good as it should be."

"The solution isn't very mature. The on-premises deployment has more features and the cloud needs to work to match those options.""In a future release, they could improve by adding some form of machine learning and artificial intelligence.""Specific to the Oracle Cloud; while they have been able to showcase inbuilt features for Oracle applications, what doesn't really come across clearly is what happens when you want to host, work with, or integrate with applications outside of the Oracle stack.""I work with many clouds and I would say, in comparison, others have a better presentation of services and they have clearer steps in terms of implementation.""I think that there could be a more user-friendly environment when it comes to the options that Oracle presents through the Oracle Cloud Platform.""The scalability requires some improvement. This is one of the most important things they need to get better at.""The initial setup can be a bit complex.""The product could use some more development and maturity so it has more peripheral functionality already integrated."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It's my understanding that our company is charged a few hundred dollars on a monthly basis."
  • "I find that Amazon AWS is expensive."
  • "The Oracle licensing is higher than it is with Amazon AWS."
  • "I think they've done a pretty good job with their pricing."
  • "Its price is kind of okay. When we do a migration from on-premises to the cloud, we typically use the lift-and-shift model. Based on the studies that we have done, cost savings are definitely there when we moved from on-premises to the cloud."
  • "The price could be lower."
  • "There are many variables involved in pricing service in AWS and overall the pricing is a bit on the higher side."
  • "AWS is not an expensive product."

  • "There is a subscription cost rather than licensing for this product."
  • "On a monthly basis, we pay around $2,500 for licensing fees, with no additional costs. We do pay extra licensing for other on-premises solutions, but these are not related to Oracle Cloud Platform."
  • "The price is fair, but we have to manage it to keep it low."

    Overview

Amazon Web Services (AWS), is a collection of cloud computing services, also called web services, that make up a cloud-computing platform offered by Amazon.com. These services operate from 12 geographical regions across the world. The most central and well-known of these services arguably include Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, also known as "EC2", and Amazon Simple Storage Service, also known as "S3". Amazon markets AWS as a service to provide large computing capacity more quickly and more cheaply than a client company building an actual physical server farm.

The Oracle Cloud Platform (also known as Platform as a Service or PaaS) provides a shared and elastically scalable platform for consolidation of existing applications and new application development and deployment. The Oracle Cloud Platform delivers cost savings through standardization and higher utilization of the shard platform across multiple applications.
